Sisodia meets Anjali’s family and promises a job to the next of kin
Sisodia accused the central government, which controls the Delhi Police, of using all of its power to destroy the opposition rather than controlling the law and order situation
Manish Sisodia, Delhi’s deputy chief minister, met the family of Sultanpuri accident victim Anjali Singh, who died after being dragged by a car in the early hours of New Year’s Day, and promised a job to her next of kin in addition to the ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh announced by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Sisodia also accused the central government, which controls the Delhi Police, of using all of its power to destroy the opposition rather than controlling the law and order situation.
“10 lahks will be given to her family, and efforts will be made to position one of her family members in a job,” Sisodia said. “It is unfortunate that the BJP is using all of its resources to destroy the opposition rather than controlling law and order.”
On Tuesday, Kejriwal announced an ex gratia to the victim’s family and promised to provide legal aid to the family to the greatest extent possible. On Tuesday, a delegation of 12 AAP legislators met with Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, raising the issue of an alleged lapse in “police action” on the day of the incident, and submitting a memorandum with five demands, including the removal of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Harendra K Singh.
The delegation, led by AAP spokesman and MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj, also requested the removal of all police officers stationed along the route taken by the accused, as well as the officer who registered the first information report (FIR) under minor provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The death of a 20-year-old lady on New Year’s Eve shocked the country after she was hit by a car driven by five guys who admitted to being intoxicated that night. She became trapped under the automobile and was carried for roughly 12 kilometers through the city, from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala.
The postmortem report ruled out any sexual assault on the lady, and her companion Nidhi, who was with the victim during the accident and was also cited as the key ‘eye witness,’ indicated that the guys were aware that Anjali was stuck under the car.
