During the third ODI between India and New Zealand in Indore, Rohit Sharma was taken aback by Shubman Gill ‘s destruction of Lockie Ferguson
Shubman Gill, who is currently on a roll, will be vying for a spot in India’s squad for the upcoming ODI Cricket World Cup later this year. The young opener also showed off his newfound confidence with a stunning double century in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. As India raced to 349 for eight in 50 overs in Hyderabad, the swashbuckling batter smashed 208 runs off 149 balls. New Zealand was bowled out for 337 in 49.2 overs while chasing a 350-run target, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s four-wicket haul.
Following that, Rohit Sharma and Co won the second ODI by an eight-wicket margin, dismissing New Zealand for 108 in 34.3 overs. The outcome aided India’s series-clinching victory. Gill, 23, demonstrated his batting ability to its fullest potential in the third ODI, destroying Lockie Ferguson in the eighth over of India’s innings. Gill stunned Rohit by clobbering four fours and a six, mocking the pacer’s abilities.
Gill received a wide, short-of-a-length ball in the first delivery of the over, which he drove straight down the ground, beating mid-off for a four. He was beaten in the next delivery, as the ball held its line to go past the edge. Gill slammed the delivery past deep third for another four in the third ball, then followed it up with a shot between mid-off and extra cover to make it back-to-back. He received a short ball in the fifth delivery, which he upper-cut over point for a stylish six that even Rohit couldn’t believe. Shubman slammed Ferguson to cover point for a four in the final delivery to make it 22 off the over.
