Joginder Sharma , India’s T20 World Cup-winning bowler in 2007, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket

On Friday, Joginder Sharma, a member of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2007, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The right-arm pacer announced his decision on Twitter and Instagram. “Today, I announce my retirement from all forms of international and domestic cricket, with immense gratitude and humility. My journey from 2002 to 2017 has been the most beautiful years of my life, with the honor of representing India at the highest level of sport “He stated this in a letter to BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Sharma will be remembered for bowling the final over of the first T20 World Cup final versus Pakistan. Despite giving up a six, he returned to dismiss Misbah Ul Haq and lead India to win. That then-captain MS Dhoni trusted him to bowl the final over, despite having an over of veteran Harbhajan Singh up his sleeves in a must-win match against England a few days before, spoke volumes about his faith in Sharma.

The pacer played four ODIs and four T20Is for India. He, on the other hand, never played for India again after the T20 World Cup final.

“I am thankful for the opportunities provided to me by the BCCI, Chennai Super Kings, and the Haryana government. I am grateful to all of my teammates, coaches, Mentos, and support staff for making my dream a reality.

“To all the cricket fans who have stood by me through the ups and downs of international sport, I will always remember the times I spent with you. Your encouragement has always been a source of inspiration for me.

“Finally, I’d like to thank my family and friends for their unconditional love and support throughout my career; they’ve been my backbones, and I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have today without them.”

Sharma, who last played in the Legends League Cricket, said he will ‘explore chances in the commercial side of cricket’.

“I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket, as well as continuing to participate in the sport that I love and challenging myself in a new and different environment.”
