Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the relationship between billionaire Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, exhibiting an image of the two. During his foot march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi stated he only heard one businessman’s name – Gautam Adani – during his motion of thanks to the President’s address.
“From Tamil Nadu, Kerala to Himachal Pradesh we have been listening to one name everywhere ‘Adani’. ‘Adani’, ‘Adani’, ‘Adani’…people used to question me that Adani enters any business and never fails,” Rahul Gandhi said in Lok Sabha.
“Relationships started many years ago when Narendra Modi was Gujarat CM…one man stood shoulder to shoulder with PM Modi, he was loyal to PM and helped Mr. Modi to develop a vision of a Resurgent Gujarat. “The real magic began when Prime Minister Modi arrived in Delhi in 2014,” Gandhi said.
The treasury benches reacted angrily to his remarks in Lok Sabha, with Union law minister Kiren Rijiju telling him not to make “wild allegations” and to provide proof of his statements. Speaker Om Birla objected to Rahul Gandhi exhibiting a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani aboard Adani’s jet to highlight their widely perceived intimacy.
Gandhi further claimed that the government changed the regulations in favor of Adani, claiming that those with no prior experience in airport building were previously barred from participating in airport development.
“Adani was allocated six airports after the rule was amended. Following that, India’s most profitable airport, ‘Mumbai Airpot,’ was hijacked from GVK by agencies such as CBI and ED and given to Adani by the government of India “He went on to say.
PM Modi remarked on Monday at the inauguration of the HAL facility in Karnataka that the state-owned jet maker’s expanding prowess and contribution to India’s self-sufficiency had revealed “the old lies and those who had manufactured the false charges.”
Rahul Gandhi responded to the prime minister’s remark by saying, “Yesterday, the PM claimed at HAL that we threw false accusations. However, Anil Ambani received the contract for 126 aircraft from HAL.”
