Fans slam Harry Styles for drinking from a shoe while performing in Australia, asking “Why did we have to see this?”
During his first Australia concert in Perth, Harry Styles followed the Oz tradition of drinking from one’s shoe and Fans slams at him
Harry Styles, fresh off his Grammy win for Album of the Year, played his first concert in Australia on Monday in Perth. He surprised his fans by drinking out of his sneakers, as is an Aussie tradition.
Page Six reported that during his concert, the singer took a sip from one of his shoes, then proceeded to fill it with liquid, and then without hesitation drank the entire contents of his shoe before putting it back on his foot. The singer followed in the footsteps of Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo, and remarked, “This is one of the most disgusting traditions ever.” He also stated that he felt like a “new person” after doing it and that he will “at length” discuss the experience with his therapist.
The video has gone viral on Twitter, and fans are stunned. “Why Harry, why?” enquired one Twitter user. “Why did I have to see this?” said another. “I love how grossed out everyone is about this who isn’t from Australia (laughing emoticon) this is a standard drinking practice for us hahaha,” another fan said. “That’s an Australian tradition,” said another. You, people, need to relax. Other artists have done it in the past.” “I actually love how he does these little things like this at these places to make his fans feel good and to show how comfortable he is and how fun he is,” a fan said. It’s a local tradition, and his disgusted reaction was so amusing that we won.”
Harry Styles performed in Australia shortly after winning song of the year, best album, the best artist, and best pop/R&B act at the Brit Awards last week. He also won three Grammys, including album of the year. Many people were surprised by Harry’s win in the category because they expected Beyoncé to win. Voyage by ABBA, 30 by Adele, Un Verano Sin Ti by Bad Bunny, Renaissance by Beyoncé, Good Morning Gorgeous (Deluxe) by Mary J Blige, In These Silent Days by Brandi Carlile, Music of the Spheres by Coldplay, Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar, and Special by Lizzo were among the other nominees.
