Ramzan or Ramadan is the Islamic calendar’s ninth month. Muslims believe that the Prophet Muhammad received revelations including the first verses of the Quran, the sacred book of Islam, during this month. Muslims celebrate this holy month by fasting from dawn till dusk. Fasting is one of Islam’s Five Pillars, which govern how Muslims should spend their lives.

The two Ramzan meals known as Sehri and Iftar are important for every Muslim. Sehri is an early morning meal eaten before daybreak. Then, they are forbidden from eating or drinking water throughout the day until after sunset when they are to break the fast with an evening meal known as iftar.

There are set times for eating both meals. The timings for Iftar and Sehri are crucial to know if you’re observing this blessed month.

The times for Iftar and Sehri in many major Indian cities on the fourth day of Ramzan, which falls on March 15, are listed here:

MUTTON CURRY RECIPE FOR YOUR MEAL

It’s necessary to eat hearty meals after the fasting hours and a satisfying meal doesn’t have to be boring. For a filling and flavourful meal, try this recipe of Mutton Curry:

INGREDIENTS NEEDED

Spice Blend:

  • Black cardamom
  • Mace
  • Cardamom
  • Cloves
  • Pathar Phool
  • Peppercorn
  • Cinnamon
  • Cumin
  • Coriander seeds
  • Bay leaf

For Curry:

  • Oil
  • Bay leaf
  • Cumin
  • Black cardamom
  • Cardamom
  • Onion, sliced
  • Kashmiri chilli powder
  • Coriander powder
  • Kasoori methi (dried)
  • Curd
  • Green chillies
  • Tomato puree (fresh)
  • Coriander, chopped

For Marination:

  • Mutton
  • Salt
  • Ginger paste
  • Garlic paste
  • Turmeric

METHOD OF PREPARATION

  1. Put all the spices in a pan and cook them gently for 2 minutes. Take them out and let them cool completely.
  2. Then, grind them into a fine powder using a mixer grinder. Strain the powder and set it aside.
  3. Combine the meat, turmeric, salt, and ginger-garlic paste. Mix well and set aside for 10 minutes.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan or kadai. Add bay leaf, black cardamom, cumin and cardamom. Stir and then add onions.
  5. Cook the onions until they are brown, then immediately add the marinated meat and cook it for 10 minutes.
  6. Now, add the Kashmiri chilli powder, coriander powder, 1 tablespoon of garam masala powder, and kasoori methi leaves. Cook the meat until the oil starts to ooze out from the sides.
  7. Increase the heat and add the whisked curd to the mixture. Keep stirring until all of the curd starts to boil.
  8. Add freshly made tomato puree and diced green chillies. Cook until the meat is tender and the oil starts to seep back out.
  9. Add the water now, stir, cover and simmer until the meat is cooked. To suit your preferences, adjust the curry’s consistency.
  10. Take out and serve hot with chopped coriander on top.
