Jaishankar responds after Pompeo claims Sushma Swaraj was unimportant

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has reacted angrily to former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s remark that he never considered Sushma Swaraj to be an “important political player,” and has condemned the remarks. Pompeo made this remark about former Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in his book ‘Never Give an Inch: Fighting for the America I Love,’ which is also making headlines for another explosive claim: that India and Pakistan were ‘this close’ to a nuclear war after the Pulwama attack in 2019.
According to PTI, Pompeo mentioned Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval in his book when discussing his relationship with his Indian counterparts. And those mentions came with a dig at Sushma Swaraj. “My original counterpart on the Indian side was not a key member of the Indian foreign policy team. Instead, I collaborated much more closely with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close and trusted confidant “He wrote about it in his book. Pompeo even went so far as describing Sushma Swaraj as “goofball” and “heartland political hack”.
Pompeo wrote about his love for the letter ‘J,’ which stands for Jaishankar “Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was my second Indian counterpart. We welcomed “J” as India’s new foreign minister in May 2019. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. I adore this man. English is one of his seven languages, and he is slightly better than mine.”
