Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar slammed billionaire investor George Soros on Saturday for his remarks about India’s democracy, calling him “old, affluent, opinionated, and dangerous.” According to Jaishankar, when electoral outcomes do not suit them, people like Soros begin to question the democratic system.

“A few years ago, he really accused us of plotting to deport millions of Muslims, which, of course, did not happen. It was an absurd suggestion. But you must first grasp what this means. “I believe Mr. Soros is an old, wealthy, opinionated individual sitting in New York who still believes that his opinions should influence how the entire world operates,” Jaishankar said at an event in Sydney.

“Now if I would only stop at old, rich, and opinionated, I would put it away. But, he is old, wealthy, opinionated, and dangerous. “And this is what occurs when such people devote resources in constructing narratives,” he added.

George Soros, a backer of progressive and liberal political causes, stated at the Munich Security Conference that Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained mute on the fraud allegations against Adani Company, asserting that he will have to “answer questions from foreign investors and in Parliament.”

“This will drastically erode Modi’s grip on India’s federal government and pave the way for much-needed institutional reforms. I may be foolish, but I believe India will see a democratic resurgence “The 92-year-old hedge fund manager-turned-philanthropist went on to say.

In response to Soros’s remark, Jaishankar stated, “People like him think an election is good if the person they want to see wins, and if the election yields a different result, they will say it is a flawed democracy, and the beauty is that all of this is done under the guise of advocating for an open society.”

The Congress stated on Friday that whether the Adani issue would spark a democratic resurgence in the country is totally dependent on the grand old party and other opposition parties and has nothing to do with Soros.

“Whether or not the ‘PM-linked Adani scandal’ spurs a democratic resurgence in India is totally dependent on the Congress, Opposition parties, and our election system. It has nothing to do with George Soros “Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, posted on Twitter.

“Our Nehruvian tradition assures that outsiders like Soros cannot influence our electoral outcomes,” he added.
